You know those days that you don’t drink much water and at
the end of the day you go to take a sip of something and realize “I’m really
thirsty!”? Maybe you were so busy during
the day that you didn’t have much time to stop and get a drink. Maybe you were so busy that you didn’t even
realize that you were thirsty. But when
you take that first sip of water you realize “Man, this is some good
stuff. Why didn’t I have more of this
today?” I know I’ve had days like that. Spiritual thirst is no different.
Psalm 143:6 – “I
stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.”
With the hustle and bustle of today’s life style, a lot of
people forget to take time out of the day to spend time praying or in the
Word. This is definitely something I
struggle with. It’s hard to live the
busy American life and still make time for God when you start to forget that
you are thirsty for Him. But after some
time without going to our Heavenly Father, taking that sip is so
refreshing. Then you realize, this is
good stuff and you want more of it.
A lot of the time, it’s easy to forget how thirsty we are
for Him to fill us with His living water (see John 4:14). Spending time in the Word and keeping a
constant prayer line open with God is the best way to fill yourself with His
living water. I would like to encourage
you to begin a routine and set a certain time each day to spend time with
God. You will never regret time spent in
His presence!
They’re just words…
‘till you let Him fill you with His living water!
